The idea of fashion as a concept is always one thats confused me, the questions that hit me and many other people when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. Can I wear this? Will people laugh? Is it in style? Does it show too much skin or cleavage? Will he or she notice it, like it?
Why though? Is my question. Why do all these thoughts pop into my head every morning? Why do I judge my own body based on that influencer with 1 million followers? Society. That's my answer. Society has turned fashion into some sort of popularity contest, people are judged on the current trends, on what they can afford, who they admire on social media. But that isn't real life, and that is something I'm just beginning to accept as a 20 year old woman.
I shouldn't judge my own wardrobe in contest with the American influencer with lots of followers. Envy is an ugly emotion, healthy in moderation but it can easily overpower you. In my opinion, in order to truly romanticise life, you have to let go of those expectations and just be you..
Fashion shouldn't be something rigid, a category or a trend I have to stick within. Let it be fluid, free, romanticise it. If I want to dress like Adam Sandler one day..and Kaia Gerber the next, then I can absolutely do that. Wear makeup, or don't. Dye your hair whatever colour you want. It's your body, your life.
I understand the struggle though, judging your fashion off the style of influencers, trying to look a certain way because a guy or even your celebrity crush might like it. I'm totally guilty of this. It's one of those things that I learnt coming into my 20s, people often like you more when you're you.
What are my fashion yays? Thats a difficult question for me, because like I said, my fashion depends on what I'm feeling. If I'm feeling tired or casual, grey joggers are an absolute must, but then on my brighter days, I love a good midi skirt. I don't think anybody should be judged for their fashion choices.
This one was a bit of a brain fart lol! I hope you enjoyed anyway. Let me know what you think below!
Love you all,
Holly.
